FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

When is the hookup fee due?

The hookup fee of $4,000 per EDU (Equivalent Dwelling Unit) will be due prior to the inspection of your connection. 

 

What will be the monthly user fee?

The user fee will be $90 per EDU per month.  You will be invoiced on a quarterly basis for this fee.  You will receive your first invoice in January 2010 for sewer service you received in November and December 2009.  You will receive your second invoice in April 2010 for sewer service you received in the first quarter of 2010.

 

Is there a fee associated with the inspection of our connection?

Yes, the fee is $60 for the inspection and it will be included in the invoice you’ll receive from your plumber.

 

What if my property hasn’t been completely restored to the state it was prior to the start of construction?

Complaint forms are available at the township office for you to put your complaint in writing.  The township secretary will pass along your complaint to the engineer and contractor to be resolved. 

 

When will the township roads be restored?

Old Route 30 will be paved from the High Street intersection to the U.S. Route 30 intersection in McKnightstown.  Tillietown Road will be paved in the locations where the road was disturbed.  Flohrs Church Road between U.S. Route 30 and Old Route 30 will be tar and chipped.  These projects will take place at the end of the summer this year.

 

Are vacant properties listed for sale required to connect to the sewer?

Yes, if the principal building is within 150 feet of the sewer line if must connect and the current property owner is responsible for connecting and the hookup fee.  Where a sewer connection is mandatory, it must be disclosed in the real estate sales agreements.

 

When do I disconnect and close out my current septic system?

Your current septic system needs to be disconnected AFTER your lateral has successfully passed inspection by Land & Sea Services. 

KPI Technology representatives will be inspecting closeouts of septic systems on behalf of the township.  There will be no fee for this inspection. 

Per the Rules and Regulations, existing on-lot disposal systems are to be emptied and their contents disposed of properly.  Any and all empty tanks shall be removed or completely dismantled and abandoned by backfilling them.

 

How many sewer update letters has the township sent?

This is the 7th sewer update letter since the planning stages of the Cashtown/McKnightstown sewer project.
